Bringing Klarna brand to the app

As Klarna decided to refresh their branding, the Design System team worked closely with the Brand team to rethink our assets, colors, components, and orchestrate a smooth transition for 100+ product teams.

My involvement in the project

Analyzed the assets offering and reduced it from 750+ to ~180. Directly oversaw the icon creation process. Collaborated with the Content Design team on metaphor and content guidelines. Creating templates, migration helpers, and provided feedback to designers.

In 4 months, we prepared a new offering available in Figma and in code. We decided to utilize Figma variables for best migration experience. We held demos, office hours, shared video snippets on Slack, created step-by-step guides, and troubleshooted issues.

The new design system offering release was followed by a product revamp and became a crucial toolset in its process. It sped up and systemized the work of 100+ product teams, resulting in a consistent, excellent experience that reflects Klarna’s new brand.
